Dylan Eil Ton, The Son of the Wave

With darkness the sea was inseparably connected by the Celts, and, as soon as the dark twin was born and named, he plunged headlong into his native element...

"Is it possible to paint a man wearing nothing but jewellery who still looks masculine?"

This is the kind of deep and though-provoking challenge that arises from getting a group of mostly female artists together one evening, and this guy is just one of the results. Well this, and more puns on the phrase "crown jewels" than you could ever imagine...

This was a departure for me in that I normally try for full and detailed backgrounds. Here I wanted a simple, textured background that hinted at an underground cave but didn't distract from the character. It was also unusual in that it pretty much "clicked" for me from the very first sketch.

Painted with Photoshop CS2 and my trust Wacom.
